Latest Weather Updates (August 20, 2026)

Tropical Depression “NENENG” was located about 675 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, at 3:00 AM today, according to the latest weather bulletin. The system had maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near its center, with gustiness reaching up to 70 km/h, and was moving westward at 15 km/h. Meanwhile, another tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was also being monitored. Despite NENENG’s distance from the country, its circulation, together with the prevailing Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, may continue to influence weather conditions over parts of Luzon.

The Southwest Monsoon remains the main weather system affecting Luzon and the western section of the Visayas. Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro may experience monsoon rains, with heavy to intense rainfall potentially triggering flash floods and landslides. Metro Manila and several provinces, including Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas, Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, and Nueva Ecija, may see occasional rains, while other parts of Luzon, Antique, and Aklan may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. These conditions may result in moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas.

Residents, particularly those in flood- and landslide-prone communities, are advised to remain alert as weather conditions may change throughout the day. Even areas that are not directly affected by NENENG may still experience rain due to the Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms. The public should continue monitoring official weather updates from PAGASA and follow advisories from local authorities, especially when heavy rains persist or flooding and landslides become possible.
