When pupils are exhibited or shown how to do something, they acquire new skills as opposed to learning the steps to execute a task, which is the case with procedural learning. In contrast to a series of instructions, which may not apply exactly in another context and are more likely to be overlooked, the advantage of conceptual learning over procedural learning is that once a concept is understood, it may be applied to real-life situations. Teachers must make clear to students that understanding the subject matter is more important than remembering a set of instructions or how to carry out a task.

Highlights of Quarter 3 Competencies of Grade 3

This week’s lesson introduces learners to a well-rounded set of competencies designed to build both academic and character foundations. In Filipino and English, students strengthen their ability to understand and express ideas clearly. They engage with a variety of texts that improve comprehension, writing, and communication in both languages. Through these lessons, learners develop confidence in sharing thoughts and emotions, while learning to use language as a tool for connection and understanding. These skills set the stage for richer classroom discussions and more meaningful written work.

In Mathematics and Science, students explore how information and evidence help explain the world around them. They learn to represent data through tables and graphs, predict outcomes, and use inquiry-based methods to test their ideas. At the same time, GMRC and Makabansa guide learners toward becoming responsible and compassionate citizens. They reflect on values, respect, and their roles in the community while embracing Filipino identity and national pride.
