DepEd Order 40 s 2022 AMENDMENT TO DEPED ORDER NO. 047, S. 2016 (Omnibus Policy on Kindergarten Education) – DEPED NEWS

1. The Department of Education (DepEd) issues the Amendment to DepEd Order (DO) No. 047, s. 2016, titled Omnibus Policy on Kindergarten Education.
2. Item V.13.C.i.a.3. is amended as follows:

• a.3. All Kindergarten classrooms must be located on the ground/first floor and must be beside the nearest entry, exit and emergency access points.

Kindergarten classrooms maybe located on the second floor but in all instances can never be higher than the second floor. Classrooms must be beside the nearest entry, exit and emergency access points. Schools shall include in all their information materials including the parent/ guardian’s orientation the second-floor location of their classroom and its implication during emergency evacuation. Schools shall assume responsibility for falls, accidents or deaths of Kindergarten learners if the incident is directly related by reason of the classroom location on the second floor.

3. All other provisions stated in DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2016 shall remain effective, unless otherwise amended by other DepEd issuances.
4. This DepEd Order is approved and shall take effect upon its publication in DepEd website: www.deped.gov.ph.
5. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order are directed.

1. Republic Act No. (RA) 10157, or the Kindergarten Education Act of 2012, declares that it shall be the policy of the State to provide equal opportunities for all children to avail of accessible mandatory and compulsory kindergarten education.
2. RA 10157 and RA 10533, or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, provide that kindergarten education shall mean “one year of preparatory education for children at least five (5) years old as a prerequisite for Grade l.”
